Christmas Elopements in Fredericksburg Texas: A Holiday Wedding Guide

Jingle Bells and Wedding Bells

If you're dreaming of a Christmas elopement in Fredericksburg Texas, just wait until you see the town during the holidays. It truly looks like the setting for a Hallmark Christmas movie.

From Thanksgiving through New Year's, Fredericksburg and the surrounding Texas Hill Country take Christmas seriously. Main Street glows with lights, Marktplatz becomes the center of the holiday festivities, and the entire town seems to settle into a cozy, festive mood.

For couples considering a Christmas elopement, it's also an incredibly romantic time to get married.

What Is Christmas Like in Fredericksburg?

Christmas in Fredericksburg is more than a few lights strung along Main Street. The town goes all in, but in a beautiful, traditional way that still feels like Fredericksburg.

At Marktplatz, the historic town square, you'll find a traditional Christmas tree alongside Fredericksburg's German Christmas Pyramid, a nod to the town's German heritage. The park is filled with lights and festivities including a seasonal ice-skating rink. Yes, ice skating in Texas!

One of the biggest events of the season is Fredericksburg's annual Christmas parade. Locals take their parade watching seriously. Trucks begin claiming parking spots along Main Street the night before so families can sit in the beds with coolers, chairs and food. Restaurants along Main Street host viewing parties from their balconies, and the whole town comes out to celebrate.

It's the kind of Christmas atmosphere that's difficult to describe until you've experienced it. And a pretty magical backdrop for getting married!

Is December a Good Time to Elope in Fredericksburg?

Absolutely, especially if you love the idea of a cozy winter wedding.

December is usually chilly, particularly in the evenings, which is part of what makes a Christmas elopement feel so romantic. Think fireplaces, hot totties, Christmas lights and bundling up together after the ceremony.

Texas weather can always surprise us, though. Snow isn't typical in December, but freezing temperatures, sleet and other winter weather are possible.

For that reason, I recommend choosing an elopement venue with an indoor ceremony option or a comfortable weather backup. You may never need it, but you'll be much happier knowing it's there.

Should You Elope on a Weekday During Christmas in Fredericksburg?

If you can, I highly recommend it.

Fredericksburg weekends are busy throughout the year, and the holiday season from Thanksgiving through New Year's is especially popular.

A weekday elopement lets you enjoy the same beautiful lights, decorations and Christmas atmosphere with fewer crowds. You'll also have a more relaxed experience exploring Main Street, dining, wine tasting and enjoying the Hill Country together.

And remember- one of the best things about eloping is that you don't have to get married on a Saturday.

What Should You Wear for a Winter Elopement?

Winter weddings are so much fun to dress for, especially in Texas.

Brides can add a fur or cashmere wrap, long sleeves or a beautiful jacket. Grooms can comfortably wear a suit without melting in the Texas heat. And cowboy boots are perfect for both.

Winter layers also give you options throughout the day. You can keep your ceremony look more traditional and add a wrap or jacket later for outdoor photos beneath the Christmas lights.

It's one of those rare times of year when the weather becomes part of the wedding style rather than something you're trying to work around.

What Flowers Work for a Christmas Elopement?

Christmas bouquets are some of my favorites.

Traditional red and green can be beautiful, but holiday flowers don't have to look like Christmas decorations. Seasonal greenery, pine boughs and even pine cones can add texture and a subtle nod to the season.

Whether you choose classic Christmas colors or something softer and more understated, those little winter touches can make a bouquet feel perfectly at home in the Texas Hill Country during the holidays.

What Can You Do During a Christmas Elopement Getaway in Fredericksburg?

Don't come to Fredericksburg just for the ceremony. Make a little holiday honeymoon out of it.

Spend an afternoon wine tasting, wander the shops along Main Street, go ice skating at Marktplatz or take a Hill Country hike during the warmer part of the day. Then end the evening somewhere cozy for dinner.

One of my favorite ideas is also one of the simplest: stop at one of the Christmas shops along Main Street and choose an ornament together to remember the year you got married in Fredericksburg. Every Christmas when you hang it on your tree, you'll have a little piece of your wedding trip with you.

Our Deluxe and Luxury Elopement Packages make it easy to turn your wedding into a getaway, with experiences including a Fredericksburg wine tasting and tour and a cozy dinner at Cabernet Grill—fireplace and all.

Is a Christmas Elopement in Fredericksburg Texas Right for You?

If your idea of a romantic wedding includes twinkling lights, chilly evenings, fireplaces, wine, cowboy boots and a town that looks like it belongs in a Christmas movie, it just might be.

A Fredericksburg Christmas elopement can be simple and intimate while still feeling incredibly special. And with the wedding taken care of, you can spend the rest of your trip doing exactly what you should be doing after you get married, celebrating together.
